A new publication by UNDP and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), “Malaysia’s Peat Swamp Forests, Conservation and Sustainable Use”, launched on 1 June 2006 by YB Dato Seri Azmi Khalid,  Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, makes the case for better conservation and sustainable use of Malaysia’s peat swamp forests.

Speaking at the launch, Dato’ Azmi said, “The book’s discussion on the conservation, importance and management of Malaysia’s Peat Swamp Forests, as well as its elaboration on the project’s development and the dynamics between the agencies, institutions and people involved, will enhance the country’s thrust in safeguarding our natural resources”. He added, “I strongly believe that this book will contribute to our understanding of these precious forests, and encourage experts and laymen into actively engaging in the noble cause of conserving Malaysia’s unique Peat Swamp Forests”.  more...
