 Recently nominated for "Best Actor in a Supporting Role" at the Boh Cameronian Arts Awards 2007 for her role in "The Fastest Clock in the Universe", Joanna Bessey is most well known for her starring role in the long-running sitcom "Kopitiam".
She was also nominated for this role in the award winning sitcom, at the Asian Television Awards (Singapore) for "Best Actress in a Comedy Role" and was highly commended. She was also voted Best Female Artist in 2000 by a public online poll.
Currently, she just premiered her directorial debut of Henrik Ibsen's "An Enemy of the People" at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) and recently starred in the feature films "Waris Jari Hantu" and "1957- Hati Malaya".
Her theatre credits include: Aladdin, The Two of Us, The Fastest Clock in the Universe, Baltimore Waltz, Dangerous Liaisons, the Vagina Monologues, Who's Looney Man?-in the Other, Honour, No Exit, The Tiger and Remain Standing to name a few.

Joanna also starred in TV shows such as the successful sitcom, All Mixed Up, which ran for four seasons and Island FM, and has been in films such as Lips to Lips and Buli. Last year she hosted the show "Appeton Achievers" on NTV7 and more recently, was seen in Mystery Six on TV2.
Despite her busy schedule, Joanna is a passionate advocate on environmental issues. As celebrity partner for UNDP, she is actively involved in our environment & energy programmes to promote tropical forests, raise awareness about the challenges facing the Orang Asli communities, and the critical role of environmental conservation in reversing the adverse effects of climate change.
