Maternal mortality is a challenge for many developing countries. Globally, half a million women die during pregnancy and childbirth each year. Malaysia has experienced dramatic improvements in maternal health. Maternal mortality is now below 30 per 100,000 live births--a level approaching  that of the most advanced countries..
