Exploiting the energy potential in the palm oil mills

 Related Events

Background
The Biomass Power Generation and Co-Generation in the Palm Oil Mills project was developed to support the government’s renewable energy efforts to curb the growth of greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel fired combustion processes and unutilized biomass waste. It aims to make use of unutilized biomass waste through the planting up of power generating capacity by using cogeneration technology.

Development Objectives
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Reduce unused waste residue from palm oil
  • Promote growth of power generation and cogeneration
  • Reduce barriers that have hindered the adoption of biomass power generation and cogeneration technologies
Activities
  • Information services and awareness enhancement activities
  • Energy policy studies and capacity building
  • Provision of financial assistance for biomass energy projects
  • Implementation of demonstration schemes
  • Support biomass energy technology development
  • Support the development of the Local Manufacturing Support Programme
Expected Outputs
  • The energy potentials of palm oil mill wastes developed and exploited
  • Two demonstration projects utilizing biomass and biogas sources completed
  • Renewable energy fund established to provide financial assistance to biomass energy projects
